Chapter 8

NEIL

I stood at the floor-to-ceiling windows of my office, gazing out at the city skyline as the sun dipped below the horizon. The decision I'd just made weighed heavily on my mind. I was getting married to Kiara, a woman I'd met only a handful of times. The thought of it felt like a cold calculation, a strategic move to further my interests.

I turned away from the window, my eyes scanning the room that had once been my sanctuary. Now, it felt like a reminder of the life I'd built, a life that seemed to be moving forward without my emotional input. I was a master of control, always calculating the next move. But this decision felt like a gamble.

The door opened, and my assistant walked in. "Sir, the arrangements for the wedding are proceeding as planned."

I nodded, my mind already focused on the next step. "Good. Keep me updated."

As the door closed, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was signing away a part of myself, trading personal happiness for professional gain. But I'd made my decision, and now it was time to see it through.

The sound of my phone buzzing broke the silence. I picked it up, my eyes scanning the message from my lawyer, detailing the prenup and business agreements.

I set the phone down, my thoughts drifting back to Kiara. What would our life together be like? Would we grow to tolerate each other, or would it always feel like a business arrangement?

The questions swirled in my mind, but the answer remained the same. No person deserved this much of time in my brain. I'd do what it took to make it work. For my empire, for my legacy, I'd put aside any doubts and make this partnership a success.

I sat at my desk, staring out the window as my mind wandered to Kaveri, the woman who had so thoroughly annoyed me at my engagement party. I couldn't help but think about her sharp tongue and condescending attitude.

Her eyes had flashed with anger as she spoke, her words dripping with venom. I had been taken aback by her intensity, her passion for her work evident but misdirected. She was a force to be reckoned with, but her methods were all wrong.

I was busy with my thoughts when yash walked over to me."Neil you're still here let's go home it's a big day tomorrow." I nodded and he patted my back. Soon we reached home as the day came to a halt.

Boxes and wedding decorations scattered everywhere. I pace back and forth, looking frazzled, while my brother, yash, is lounging on the couch, eating a bag of chips.

Yash, can you please help me find my cufflinks? I need them. I say exasperated.

Yash was still munching on chips. Looking towards me he says" Oh, dude, you're really getting married. Like, for real"

Didn't he know that. He is saying this to irritate me. Yeah, yash, I'm aware of that. Now, about those cufflinks...

He chuckled. "I think I saw them in the fridge. Next to the leftover pizza.

In the fridge? Why would they be in the fridge?

"Maybe you were trying to chill them. You know, calm them down before the day." He shrugged his shoulders.

I rolled my eyes "You're not helping, yash"

He grinned. "someone's got to keep things interesting around here. You're about to become a married man. It's a serious situation."

"You're ridiculous. But seriously, help me find those cufflinks." I said, laughing.

Yash got up. "Fine, fine. Let's go on a wild goose chase around the apartment." We search the apartment, with yash making silly suggestions and me getting increasingly frustrated.

"Yash, I swear, if we don't find them..."

"Ta-da! They were in the freezer, next to the ice cream. "He held up the cufflinks and I was relieved.

"You're a menace, yash."

"that's what brothers are for. Now, let's get you looking sharp for the big day." A sly smirk plastered on his face. I smiled at him

"Thanks, yash. You're a good brother, even if you are a bit of a goofball."

Yash grinned. "Hey, someone's got to keep you on your toes. Now, let's go get some real food. I'm starving!"

"You just ate a bag of chips."

"So, what?" I shook my head in disbelief.

I stepped out of the car and gazed at the wedding venue, feeling a sense of obligation rather than excitement. The sun was shining, the decorations were perfect, and the atmosphere was festive, but I couldn't muster up the enthusiasm to care.

I adjusted my tie and suit, going through the motions out of habit rather than any genuine interest. I was getting married today, but the thought didn't fill me with the joy and anticipation it was supposed to.

As I walked towards the entrance, I couldn't help but think about the reasons I was going through with this. Family expectations, social pressures, and the fact that I'd already invested so much time and money into the preparations. But the truth was, my heart wasn't in it.

I felt a tap on my shoulder, and yash handed me a small bottle of water. "For your dry mouth," he said with a grin.

I took a sip, feeling a bit detached from the whole scene. "Thanks," I muttered, my mind wandering to the countless things I'd rather be doing than standing at the altar, promising to love and cherish someone for the rest of my life.

The sound of music and chatter filled the air, but I tuned it out, lost in my own thoughts. I was going through the motions, playing the role of the happy groom, but inside, I felt empty and unenthusiastic. I wondered how I'd ended up here, and what the future held for me.

I stood at the altar, my eyes scanning the crowd with growing anger and humiliation. Where was she? Where was the woman I was supposed to marry? The guests were starting to murmur, their faces filled with a mixture of shock and curiosity.

And then, like a slap in the face, the truth hit me. She wasn't coming. She had run off, left me standing here like a fool.

My face burned with rage as I turned to one of my people. "Find out what happened," I barked, my voice low and menacing. "I want to know why she's not here."

He nodded and quickly disappeared, leaving me to seethe with anger. How dare she? How dare she humiliate me like this? I was Neil, the CEO of a major company. I was used to getting what I wanted, when I wanted it.

But she had rejected me. She had rejected my wealth, my status, my everything. The thought was infuriating. As I stood there, fuming, I couldn't help but think about all the ways I would make her regret this decision. I would find her, and I would make her pay for humiliating me like this.

The guests were starting to get restless, and I knew I had to do something. I turned to my family, my face still twisted with anger. "Let's get out of here," I said, my voice cold and controlled. "This farce is over." Just then sanjay Suryavanshi, arrived in.

" I want to talk to you and your family for a while" he barked. His voice shaking forehead full of sweat and hands trembling.

We walked into a room. My dad questioned him " what happened sanjay, where is your daughter, Kiara?"

"I'm really sorry to confess Rajesh, but she ran away." My mom gasped and it was the end of my patience.

"What do you mean ran away, your daughter herself, insisted on marrying me and she ran away the last moment. Do you think it's a game?" I practically shouted at him.

Yash kept a hand on my shoulder, trying to calm me down.

"This whole scene will do nothing but hamper my public image. And listen to me very carefully mr sanjay Suryavanshi, I will destroy your whole lineage if you or your daughter bring me humiliation in any fucking way."

I turned my face away ready to walk from the room. But a voice interrupted me. " we have found a way out of this situation, only if you agree upon it."

The fun beginssss. Are you ready people?
